Welsh Roots

3 of my grandparents were born in this corner of North Pembrokeshire in West Wales. My Grandmother was born in the far North East of Scotland.

On my father's side the family were a mostly farmers, going back in time blacksmiths and mariners make an appearance too.

They lived close to one another, explaining why some people pop up on both my paternal grandparent's trees.
Some farmed around Llanllawer which is between Fishguard and Dinas Cross, towards Llanychaer. Other farmed around Manorowen. The mariners lived out towards St Nicholas and then in Lower Fishguard.

My maternal grandfather's family can be traced back to the same two houses for several generations. Houses where family still live.

Again a mixture of farmers and blacksmiths. A few mariners thrown in for good measure.

No ministers, doctors, lawyers or landed gentry in my tree.

Families that did not move far from each other. This explains why my childhood memories are full of  aunts and uncles who were actually far more distantly related than siblings to my parents. Auntie Polly and Auntie Lena- my Grandmother's aunts.  Auntie Dilys who, after much research, turned out to be my 3 rd cousin once removed!

A strong Chapel and Church going family on both sides. Still to this day.
